Did you know that you have to be fit to work on your computer? Aha, now I have your attention. Working on computers like laptops, desktops, tablets and more is a daily event for most of us. I do not have to list the advantages of these devices, I am sure you are very aware of that.

However, I totally underestimated the health risks associated with computers. And I am not talking "radiation" and all those controversial topics. I am talking ergonomics. That is a field of study that attempts to reduce strain, fatigue, and injuries by improving product design and work space arrangement. The goal is a comfortable, relaxed posture.

Symptoms may include pain, muscle fatigue, loss of sensation, tingling and reduced performance. And I thought it was just cranky old me. lol

And the remedy?

  • At least every 10 minutes, take a short (10-20 second) break. Take your hands off the keyboard and move!

  • Every 30-60 minutes, take a brief (2-5 minute) break to stretch and/or walk around.

There is a lot of helpful information on the internet about ergonomics so do yourself a favor and read up about it. It just might remove that pain you have when you and your computer are entertaining each other. Please find a helpful link at the bottom of this newsletter.
