  • Embroidery Design (after embroidery is stitched, cut fabric 7"wide x 7" (180mm x 180mm))
Supplies needed for A4 Book Cover:
  • Print sewing PDF pattern (included in your download)
  • Hard-cover book Dimensions = 8.3"x 11.7" (210mm x 297mm)
  • Plain fabric = 1 x (13" x 33", 330mm x 840mm)
  • Contrast fabric = 1 x (13" x 33", 330mm x 840mm)
  • Ribbon 1 x (16"long x 0.5"wide, 400mm x 12mm)
  • Bias Binding for top of embroidery = approx 10" wide x 0.8" (260mm x 22mm)
  • Webbing for inside of book (to adjust cover) = 15" x 0.8" (380mm x 22mm)
  • Embroidery Design (after embroidery is stitched, cut fabric 10"wide x 10" (260mm x 260mm))
Steps:
1.

Print and assemble the PDF pattern.
Use scotch tape or glue to glue the pages to each other
Cut 1 x plain fabric(inner)
Cut 1 x contrast fabric (outer)
2.

Stitch out your design and leave approx 1" edge all around
To cover the top edge of the embroidery, cut a piece of fabric 4" wide x 7"long (A5 book) or 4" wide x 10"long (A4 book)
3.

Fold in half and iron
4.

Fold each half toward the center and iron again to form 1" wide bias binding
5.

Your 1" bias binding should cover the top section of the embroidered block
6.

Pin the bias binding in place
With a straight stitch on your sewing machine stitch the bias binding to the embroidered top section. Stitch length 2 to 3

7.

From the outer fabric - measure 7" (for A5 book) measure 10" (for A4 book) from the tapered end and cut
8.

Place the embroidery on the left-over fabric and cut
You should have 3 sections

9.

Place the embroidery on the middle section
10.

Align the bottom of the embroidery to the bottom of the outer fabric
11.

Pin the left and right pieces of outer- fabric to each side of the embroidery
12.

The tapered edge will be stitched to the right
The straight edge piece will be stitched to the left

13.

Your embroidered pocket is now secured between the 2 sections of outer fabric
14.

Just to double check...your "pocket section" should be the width of your book`s width
15.

Use the PDF pattern to mark the webbing and ribbon
16.

Pin webbing and ribbon in place
17.

Stitch the ribbon to the top edge only
Stitch the webbing to both the top and bottom
18.

Place the inner fabric on top and pin all around (leaving open a section to the right)
19.

Leave open a section to the right.
This is where you will turn the cover inside out

20.

We used a stitch length of 2.5
21.

Cut the outer covers to form neat corners, when turned inside out
22.

Turn fabric inside out
Before closing the opening...double check that your book fits and that you are happy with the fit
Make adjustments if necessary

23.

Pin the opening
24.

Pin the back flap - bottom
25.

Pin the back flap - top
26.

Iron the cover to form a neat edge all around
27.

With a straight stitch on your sewing machine close the opening and stitch the top and bottom back sections
28.

Your adjustable Fabric Book Cover is complete!
Well done!!
29.

The outer pocket is so useful
