We're using the gorgeous Dream Big Spectrum Printed panel from Hoffman for this project – but here's the exciting part: you can absolutely raid your fabric stash and create an equally amazing quilt using our All In The Hoop Quilted Twisted Hexagon Blocks!

|
Let's Get Started: Give your panel (or fabric) a good press with your iron – you want a smooth foundation! |
![]() |
|
Print the hexagon templates ASH3790_57BAT and ASH3790_57FAB at ACTUAL SIZE. (Important: don't select "fit to page" or your sizing will be off!) Use template 57FAB to cut your fabric hexagons and template 57BAT to pre-cut your batting hexagons. |

|
Layout Time: Find the center point of your panel. |
![]() |
| Position template ASH3790_57FAB at the center. | ![]() |
| Start marking hexagons from the center outward – work horizontally (top to bottom) and vertically (side to side). | ![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Fill in the remaining hexagon shapes across your entire panel.
![]() |
![]() |
| Once you're happy with the placement, carefully cut each block. | ![]() |
Here's a Game-Changer: Number each block with a pin and mark the bottom orientation. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later when assembly is a total breeze!
![]() |
| Prepare Your Accent Fabric: Cut 2" wide × 36" strips OR six 2" × 6" pieces per block. |
![]() |
| Sort your blocks by rows – staying organized = less stress! |
![]() |
| Choose your thread colors. We went with tone-on-tone to match each hexagon's dominant color – so pretty! | ![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
|
Stitch Your Blocks: Hoop your cut-away stabilizer – you're ready to create your first twisted hexagon! |
![]() |
![]() |
| Stitch color stop 1, then place batting and fabric in the center and secure with color stop 2. | ![]() |
| Color stop 3 stitches the UNIQUE design element. | ![]() |
![]() |
|
Creating the Twist: Now for the fun part! Place your first accent fabric strip aligned on the edge (see photo). |
![]() |
![]() |
| A straight stitch secures it. Fold outward and repeat this process five times. | ![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| Before adding the 6th strip, fold the first strip inward (check the photo!). Stitch the next color stop to secure that final accent piece. | ![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
The last color stop is a running stitch around the outer edge.

Pro Tip: Keep those numbered pins on your blocks with the orientation marked – seriously, future you will be so grateful!
| Trim away excess stabilizer and batting to reduce bulk in your seams. | ![]() |
| Trim the edges using the same seam allowance on all blocks for perfect consistency. | ![]() |
