Materials Required for the All-In-The-Hoop Twisted Hexagon Mug Rug:
· Center design fabric (8" x 8") – we used white fabric to stitch the design on
· Thin batting, approximately 10" x 10" or 13" x 13" (size depends on your chosen finished dimensions)
· Two coordinating fabrics for the hexagon strips (we used 3” wide strips) Total length needed = approximately 27” from the one coordinating fabric and 27” from the second coordinating fabric.
· Backing fabric, approximately 10" x 10" or 13" x 13" (matching your chosen size)
· Stabilizer (we used cut-away stabilizer)
· Spray adhesive (optional)

Instructions:
1. Prepare the hoop: Secure the stabilizer in your embroidery hoop and stitch the first color sequence. Apply batting and your center fabric over the stitched outline using spray adhesive.
2. Secure the layers: Run the next stitch sequence to hold the fabric and batting in place.
3. Complete the center design: Follow the color chart through the lettering portion of the design.
4. Attach the first fabric strip: Position your first coordinating fabric along the left edge of the design with right sides together. The next stitch sequence (a running stitch) will anchor this strip in place.
5. Work around the hexagon: Flip the fabric strip outward. Repeat this process moving counterclockwise around all six sides of the hexagon.
6. Add the backing: After all six coordinating fabric strips are attached, the machine will stitch a larger hexagon outline. Cover the entire design with your backing fabric (right side down) and complete the final stitch sequence.
7. Finish the mug rug: Take the design out of the hoop and trim away excess fabric, clipping corners carefully. You'll notice a small opening in the outer stitching line. Use this opening to turn the mug rug right side out, then hand-stitch the opening closed.
8. Enjoy your finished mug rug!
