Project idea: Hanging Pot Holder Tea Towel

August 01, 2025

Project idea: Hanging Pot Holder Tea Towel

Here are a few good reasons for making our Hanging Pot Holder Tea Towel

Practical Convenience: This clever dual-purpose design combines the absorbency of a tea towel with the heat protection of a pot holder, keeping both essentials within easy reach right where you need them most.

Space-Saving Solution: The hanging feature maximizes your kitchen storage by utilizing unused wall or cabinet space, perfect for smaller kitchens or when counter space is at a premium.

Always Accessible: No more digging through drawers for a pot holder or searching for a clean dish towel - it hangs conveniently near your stove or workspace, ready for instant use.

Thoughtful Gifting: These make wonderful housewarming, bridal shower, or hostess gifts that recipients will actually use daily, combining practicality with your personal handmade touch.

Quick Kitchen Tasks: Perfect for grabbing hot lids, wiping up spills, or handling warm dishes all in one motion, making cooking and cleanup more efficient.

Decorative and Functional: Unlike plain kitchen linens tucked away in drawers, these attractive pieces add personality to your kitchen while serving double duty as both décor and essential tools.

The best of all - this is an all in the hoop project!

Materials Needed:

  • Cut-away stabilizer
  • Embroidery thread in design colors
  • Batting
  • Front fabric
  • Back/lining fabric
  • Cord or ribbon (approximately 3 inches for hanging loop)
  • Button (¾ inch diameter or your preferred size)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Embroidery Phase:

  1. Secure stabilizer in embroidery hoop and stitch the first color stop
  2. Using spray adhesive, position batting and front fabric over the stitched outline
  3. Stitch the next color to anchor fabric and batting in place
  4. Continue following your color sequence, stopping before the final two colors
  5. Apply spray adhesive to attach lining fabric to the back, then stitch to secure
  6. Trim away excess fabric
  7. Insert folded ribbon loop and complete the final satin stitch outline to secure
  8. Remove from hoop and trim stabilizer close to stitching

Assembly Phase:

  1. Fold the tea towel into thirds lengthwise
  2. Fold the tea towel in half crosswise
  3. Using a straight stitch on your sewing machine, attach the pot holder (center section) to the tea towel
  4. Sew the button on the opposite end from the hanging loop

Your functional hanging pot holder tea towel is now ready to use!

Happy stitching friends, and remember we'd love to see photos of your finished project!
Warm regards
Annemarie
