How To: Make a Cross Body Bag

March 04, 2019 4 Comments

Make a Cross Body Bag in 1hour

You Need:

  • 1 x stitch out (cut 9" square after embroidery is done)
  • 3 x piece of contrast fabric (all cut 9" square)
  • 1 x piece of batting (8" square)
  • 1 x piece of batting (9" square)
  • Webbing (strap) approx 49"/124cm (we made our own webbing using the same contrast fabric)

    Embroidery:

    • Hoop your stabilizer with a small square piece(the size of your actual design) of batting on top.
    • Place the fabric on top of the batting.
    • Stitch out the design
    • Cut 9" square after embroidery is done.

    FRONT PANEL:

    • Pin the webbing(strap) to the top LEFT of the embroidery

    • Place the contrast fabric on top of the embroidery and pin the top

    BACK PANEL:

    • Place the batting and 1 x layer of contrast fabric on top of each other.
    • Pin the END of the webbing(strap) to the TOP LEFT of your back panel, and pin the last layer of contrast fabric to the BACK PANEL.

    • Below is what it should look like, before we take it to the sewing machine.

    • With a straight stitch on your sewing machine (we use a stitch length of 2.5) stitch the top of the FRONT PANEL, then the top of the BACK PANEL.

    • Open both the FRONT and the BACK panels.
    • Place them on top of each other. Ensure the webbing(strap) is not twisted.

    • Pull the webbing (strap) to the side without the embroidery.
    • Pin all around, but leave an opening at the bottom where the straps are
    • With a straight stitch on your sewing machine, stitch all around (leaving open the bottom end)

    • Cut the corners to create neat corners when turned outside in.

    • Turn the bag outside in and pin the opening in the lining.
    • Secure with a straight stitch
    • Pull the lining inside the bag and your Cross Body Bag is complete.

Thank you for the instructions for the cross body bag. I know how to embroider but not sew. I am going to try this. You make it look so simple.
Love your website (and the dandelions!)
